How to Search

Following the link to the Search Resource Finder page will bring you to the basic search screen.

  1. Enter your search word(s) into the free text box.
  2. Use the drop down box on the right to choose whether to match all words, match any word or match a phrase in your search.
  3. Click on Search.

Your word(s) will be searched for in all parts of the collection description entry.

Advanced Search

From the Search page, click on Advanced Search under the centre box.

The advanced search is in two sections:

  1. The top section allows you to combine search terms in the Title, Description and Subject fields.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom section to browse a list of subjects, languages, personal names, corporate names, places or times.
  3. Once you have typed in your search terms, or selected from a browsing list, click on Search The Database underneath that particular search.

NB The top search and the bottom browse search are completely separate searches, and search terms appearing in one section will not affect a search in the other section.

Example: In the top half of the screen, Description search for “Commonwealth” AND Subject search for “History” will locate entries such as the Bodleian Library of Commonwealth and African Studies at Rhodes House.

Example: In the bottom half of the screen, selecting the drop down list to browse for a Personal Name, such as ‘ Frank Hurley, 1885-1962’ will locate entries such as the Scott Polar Research Institute.
